Vintage co-op apartments are for sale at 1540 N Lake Shore Drive in Chicago’s Gold Coast. Here’s a review of the building and the apartments I’ve previewed or shown along with photos and details of the other apartments for sale. None are my listings.
THE LOCATION
1540 N Lake Shore Drive is north of Burton and south of La Salle Drive in the very northern part of the Gold Coast. Chicago’s Lakefront is just on the other side of Lake Shore Drive. Lincoln Park is one block to the north. 1540 N Lake Shore Drive currently has a Walk Score of 85, a Transit Score of 85 and a Bike Score of 53. It’s just over half a mile from the Red Line Stop at Clark & Division. See its interactive Walk Score Map below.
THE BUILDING
Built in 1926 the French provincial style high-rise houses 29 apartments on 17 floors. There are no more than 2 units per floor. The building has an exercise room and storage. The door staff operate the elevator 24/7. Leased parking is available next door. Valet parking is also available. Utilities included in the monthly assessments include: cable TV, heat and water.
As is typical with co-ops, an application and interview with the co-op board is required. A minimum down payment of 60% is required.
THE CO-OP APARTMENTS
1540 N Lake Shore Drive includes 2, 3, and 4 bedroom apartments. Styles vary from vintage to more contemporary. The floor plans are fairly linear stretching from the front of the building to the back. All of the units have in-unit laundry. All of the apartments I’ve seen have gas cooking appliances. The most recent sale was unit 3S, a 3 bedroom that sold in May for $1,150,000.
