199 E Lake Shore Drive is located in Chicago between North Lake Shore Drive and Michigan Avenue just south of Oak Street Beach. Shopping on Oak Street and the Magnificent Mile on Michigan Avenue are just 1 block to the west. Chicago’s Lakefront is just across North Lake Shore Drive. THE BUILDING
199 E Lake Shore Drive built in 1915 has 11 floors with 13 units. The architect was Benjamin Marshall who also designed 999 N Lake Shore Drive and the Drake Hotel. It was originally a rental apartment building and called “The Breakers”. The building is staffed 24 hours with a door person.
Unlike many vintage buildings, 199 E Lake Shore Drive has its own parking. It also has an exercise room, bike room and storage spaces. Pets are allowed. Rentals are allowed for a maximum of 2 years during ownership. Since this is a co-op, property taxes are also included in the monthly assessments. THE CO-OP APARTMENTS
The building has primarily 3 bedroom units with at least 4,600 SF. The original apartments have one level. Duplex apartments were later added on the west side of the building. Cooking appliances in units I’ve seen are gas. The most recent sale was 6W, a 3 bedroom which sold in April for $3,000,000.
