This week I toured the mansion for sale at 4815 S. Woodlawn Ave in Chicago’s Hyde Park – Kenwood Historic District. The home was designed by Chicago architect Howard Van Doren Shaw.

There are 4 levels including a basement in this 8,600 SF home built in 1910. It has 8 bedrooms, 5 full bathrooms and one half bathroom.

When I toured 4815 S. Woodlawn Ave I noticed 5 features that make it stand out from other Chicago mansions for sale.

      1. A ballroom on the 3rd floor
      2. A long barrel ceiling on the 2nd floor
      3. 3 original wall phones
      4. A coach house with a 5 car garage, three-bedroom apartment and deck
      5. A huge 0.6 acre lot

The mansion was built for Thomas Wilson of Wilson and Company Meat Packing and Wilson Sporting Goods. It has only had 2 owners.

4815 S. Woodlawn Ave has 4 entrances with one of them along the driveway partially covered. The main entrance is covered and has 2 archways.

The 8 bedrooms are huge with the smallest 15 x 9 ft. The home has an elevator, but it is currently not functioning. There are enclosed porches on 2 levels. The basement has not been finished.

The original woodwork has been preserved. The original blueprints with detailing of the interior will convey with the property.
