Being a Full Service REALTOR® Can be a Challenge

Many of us in the real estate industry are committed to providing full service and even going above and beyond traditional service levels providing additional value-added services. I, for example, provide my sellers home staging assistance. This is a service that most listing agents would refer to a home staging company to be paid by the seller.

A Los Angeles REALTOR® learned today that providing as he puts it “amazing service” isn’t always easy. Jon Strum who writes the blog, LA real estate, wanted to buy an ad in the LA Times for his free seminar entitled “Tax Savings & Financial Strategies for Home Sellers”. The sales rep for the paper informed him that the ad would cost 10 times the rate charged for the same space to advertise home listings! Jon’s attempt to provide free useful information would be charged 10 times the home listing rate since it wasn’t designed to sell anything. Unbelievable! :(

For the full details, read Jon’s post, “L.A. Times — Stuck In The Past (…and trying to stick it to me!).”
