Kitchen cabinets with a built-in tableOn Saturday I showed houses in Des Plaines to a woman wanting to take advantage of the $8K first time home buyer tax credit. She’s owned a home before, but not in the past 3 years, so she qualifies as a first time home buyer.

One of the houses, a 1924 bungalow, included the built-in kitchen table shown left. The top of the table folds in half so that it fits under a regular size countertop. The 2 legs are on wheels so it rolls back under the counter. It provides a nice work area.

I have never seen such a built-in before! Anyone else have one of these or seen one?

My grandad built one in the early 60′s in my grandparents home in their kitchen in Michigan. He took a flatware drawer, and fixed a little table thing on sliders to pull out as much as you want. The 2 legs pushed back into the under cabinet below. It was so cool., and they often used it to have a quick breakfast without messing up the larger formal tables. I don’t think he got the idea from anyone, he was just very inventive.
