This morning I received a call from a gentleman in New York City who will be relocating here for a job in Hoffman Estates. He’d like to live in the city, but doesn’t want to commute that far. He wants a condo or townhouse and asked where I’d suggest he look.
I recommended Arlington Heights’ Downtown. Arlington Heights won awards in 1999 and 2001 for its downtown redevelopment.
The redeveloped downtown has a definite urban feel with numerous mid-rise condo and retail developments (44 N. Vail shown left).
There are plenty of entertainment choices. The Metropolis Performing Arts Centre is located in Downtown Arlington Heights. It’s one of the 10 largest professional theatres in the Chicago area. Downtown Arlington Heights is also home to the Arlington Theaters.
There are also a wide variety of restaurants including Fuego (Mexican), Peggy Kinnane’s (Irish), Francesca’s Tavola (Italian), and 3 Thai restaurants.
If that’s not enough, he can always take the Metra Union Pacific Northwest Line into the city.

Fran,
I totally agree with you that Arlington Heights has come a long way and currently has a hip, sophisticated feel. Way different than the AH I grew up in! Hope your client enjoys my old home town!
