The photo to the right is from a house in Vernon Hills priced over $300K, I showed to buyers last week. The dishes in the sink are bad enough, but the case of empty Corona Beer Bottles on the countertop is the crowning touch for a kitchen already short on countertop space.
Attractive bottles of wine or champagne (unopened) can be nice home staging accessories. Beer bottles just don’t have the same cachè. Opened beer bottles are even worse giving the impression that the house has not been well cared for. If you don’t care enough to pick up after your parties, you probably don’t care enough to take care of your house.
Only YOU can prevent such home staging tragedies in your home! ![]()

Hi Barb,
I’ve enjoyed reading your website and blog. I am a home stager in Rochester, NY.
FYI, home staging is not a registered trademark. Barb Schwartz has tried to intimidate Realtors and others in the industry into thinking she owns a trademark. She has a trademark on the word “stage” for published videos related to education in real estate. Other forms of the word are not covered by this trademark. Home staging is a generic term, and can be used freely.
Take care!
Scott
Hi Scott,
I’m glad you enjoy my blog!
Thank you so much for letting me know about the lack of a trademark on “home staging”. I believed what I was told in my HomeStaging.Com training. I just checked the trademarks database and you are correct! Shame on them!
Now that’s just classy!
