A while back Missy Caulk, an Ann Arbor Realtor I follow on Twitter, shared a great story about a Google executive who thought he and his wife could find the right home for themselves without using a Realtor.
Like 85% of home buyers they started looking at homes for sale online. They soon learned that buying a home for sale involves a lot more than just finding the right place online. They ended up using a Realtor in Missy’s office. The executive shared his lessons learned at a presentation Missy attended.
First, they needed to see the homes they were interested in. Would you rather have a Realtor who represents the seller showing you a home or a Realtor who works for you?
Second, after they found the home they wanted they needed a market analysis to avoid overpaying for the home. That’s tough, if you don’t know how to do a market analysis and don’t have access to all the data needed.
Third, they needed help negotiating. From personal experience I can tell you that it’s much easier to approach negotiations objectively with the help of a professional.
