While browsing other real estate blogs today I came across a post “Google Makes Its Move” on the blog, LA real estate. Type “chicago real estate” into Google and at the top of the search results (below Sponsored Links) you’ll see a small “Search housing” form where you can specify a location and listing type (for rent or for sale). You can also refine your search with property types, price range, bedrooms and bathrooms.
I did a search of all properties for sale within 30 miles of Chicago and only received 6729 search results, a small fraction of the total number of properties listed in the Chicago metro area. A search of all properties for sale within 1 mile of Arlington Heights returned only 9 search results. So Google has a long way to go as a place to search for homes, but it will be interesting to see how this develops.
For now, BairdWarner.Com and its HomeFinder System is still the best place to search for Chicago area homes. For an overview of how BairdWarner.Com compares to Realtor.Com see my earlier post, “Where to Look for Chicago Area Homes on the Internet.”
