Mary Umberger’s column, “Love owning your home? Maybe not so much” in yesterday’s Chicago Tribune House & Homes Section revealed the most frightening thing I’ve heard about real estate. According to an assistant professor of real estate at the Wharton School of Business at the University of Pennsylvania, women homeowners are an average of 12 lbs. heavier than women renters!
As if the housing industry doesn’t have enough bad news!
Dr. Grace Wong Bucchianeri came to this conclusion after studying about 800 women in Columbus, Ohio. I found her working paper, “The American Dream? The Private and External Benefits of Home Ownership” online at realestate.wharton.upenn.edu, but they want $20 for a copy. I can buy a large pizza for that.

I’ll bet women homeowners are also more likely to be married, therefore single women should buy homes or else they’ll die alone. Correlation doesn’t equal causation.
Hi Dave,
This is a humorous post, not a serious post.

Gee Fran, maybe I own 2 or 3 homes I don’t know about…
Good one, Diane!
