I spent over 8 hours showing houses in Naperville this weekend to 2 different couples. Both of the couples have one or both partners with jobs in downtown Chicago, so proximity to a Metra station is a key factor.
After the couple I worked with Saturday found a house they were interested in, we drove from the house to the Route 59 Metra Station. Map websites will tell you that the trip takes 13 minutes, but it took us 20 minutes around 5:30 p.m. Route 59 (also known as Highway 59) has a lot of traffic even during non-peak times like mid-morning and mid-afternoon weekdays. Route 59 is a well traveled road with all of the growth in southwest Naperville and Plainfield to the south.
So if you’re thinking about buying on the west side of Naperville and commuting on Metra into Chicago, don’t go by what map websites tell you. It will definitely take you longer. Do the drive to find out for yourself.
