“Skokie” & The $1.2M Teardown

Today’s Chicago Tribune has a good article on Skokie, a northern suburb close to the city. The article mentioned that CBS made a TV movie, “Skokie”, about the suburb and how it resisted Nazis who tried to march there in the 1970s. Since I haven’t seen the movie, I now have “Skokie” set on my TiVo Wishlist to automatically record.

If you aren’t familiar with TiVo, it’s a device and on-going service that lets you record broadcast, cable and satellite programs onto a hard drive for later viewing. Many cable and satellite providers now provide TiVo-like devices, but from what I’ve seen so far, none of them have the advanced search features that TiVo has. TiVo lets you create Wishlists so that when there are programs are meet your Wishlist criteria, they are automatically recorded. You can create Wishlists for topics, actors, and program titles. Some of my current TiVo Wishlists are: “Izzard, Eddie” (one of my favorite comedians), “blog” (TiVo hasn’t found anything yet), and “Searching for Debra Winger” (a documentary on women in the movie industry that I missed the first part of).

The other item in the article that caught my attention was the recent sale of a home in Skokie for $1.2M. It’s a teardown! I’d hate to think of what the buyer would think of my home!
