Spam Does Not Sell a Home

I noticed a newspaper ad today by a discount real estate broker. If you list your home with them, they say they will email thousands of Realtors® about your home. At first, that might sound pretty good, but let’s explore how effective this is in marketing your home.

I get a few of these kinds of emails every week. My reaction is to jump to the bottom of the email and find the link to let me unsubscribe from the distribution list. If there isn’t one, I reply back to the sender asking to be removed from the list. I don’t think I’m any different from most other Realtors or anyone else for that matter. No one likes spam. We all lose time every day deleting it from our inboxes.

Even if I wasn’t annoyed by spam, the chances that I currently have a buyer who would be interested in any one specific home in the Chicago area is less than 1 in 1,000. Mass emails are not an effective tool for marketing homes.
