If you’d like a condo within walking distance of the Loop, but for less than you’d pay in River North or Streeterville, consider the West Loop.
Not everyone agrees on where the West Loop starts and ends. The borders I typically use are the Chicago River on the east to Ashland on the west and from the Eisenhower Expressway on the south up to Grand on the north. Some people say the West Loop only goes north to Lake. Others think it extends south of the expressway.
The West Loop has several loft style condos for sale.
One type of condo you’re more likely to find in the West Loop than probably anywhere else in Chicago is a loft. Since the West Loop was formerly a warehouse district, there are lots of buildings that were converted to loft condos. Roughly 1/4 of the West Loop condos for sale are lofts. The West Loop also has a higher percent of condos for sale that are townhouses than nearby in the Loop or Near North Side.
The West Loop also has high rise condos including 333 N Canal, 165 N Canal and 737 W Washington.
- Most West Loop 1 bedroom condos for sale are priced between $200K and $300K.
- Most West Loop 2 bedroom condos for sale are priced between $250K and $500K.
- Most West Loop 3 bedroom condos for sale are priced between $400K and $700K.
