1301 N Astor built in 1929 houses 11 apartments in 15 stories. The art deco building was designed by Philip B. Maher. Original buyers could customize their apartments. Some were designed by the architect, David Adler.
Potter Palmer II first owned the top 3 floors. Palmer Jr as he was also known was the son of Potter Palmer who built a castle on land just east of the location for 1301 N Astor that was formerly a Catholic cemetery. As more wealthy Chicagoans moved to the area the Gold Coast neighborhood was born.
