Chicago’s lakefront condos are popular with their lake views and proximity to Chicago’s lakefront. Finding which ones are for sale isn’t always an easy task.

Chicago’s multiple listing system lets sellers’ agents specify if the lot for a home is waterfront. This can mean it’s along a lake, river or other body of water such as a canal. However, often the sellers’ agents don’t specify that when their listing is on Lake Michigan. Thus, there’s no easy way to search for just Chicago lakefront condos for sale.

Then there’s the challenge of defining exactly what waterfront or lakefront means. There are a few condos that are truly on Lake Michigan with direct beach access. Condos along Lake Shore Drive with the exception of Lake Point Tower are across the street from Chicago’s lakefront. Most of their owners would say that they have a lakefront condo even though the condos aren’t actually on the lake. Those who live on North Marine Drive in Uptown will also say that their buildings are lakefront even though there’s a sizeable amount of park area between their buildings and Lake Michigan.
