THE CONDOS
One of the features I love about these vintage condos are built-in vanities as shown above. Most of the condos have a master bedroom dressing area with a built-in vanity that leads to the master bathroom.
Many of the master baths I saw had separate showers. For those units with 3 or more bedrooms, the bedroom behind the kitchen was formerly the maid’s quarters and includes the second exit for the condo.
Most units don’t have a washer and dryer, but in 2012 the condo board voted to approve their installation in units. Most of the condos I’ve seen have electric cooking appliances, but gas can be installed for a fee.

THE BUILDING
222 E Chestnut was originally built as an apartment building in 1929. It was considered one of the most successful projects in the 1920s for the architectural team of Rissman and Hirschfeld who would go on to design 1335 North Astor, 850 North DeWitt Place, 3520 North Lake Shore Drive and 1040 North Lake Shore Drive – The Carlyle. The 19 story building contains 45 condos.
As with many other vintage buildings in the neighborhood, parking is leased and off-site. There is valet parking next door. Pets are allowed. As with 220 E Walton and 232 E Walton, there is a 24 door person who manually operates the elevator.
