Back in August I wrote about how inventory levels for Chicago mansions had been rising. That changed in the 3rd quarter of 2012 when the number of listed Chicago mansions for sale dropped 13.3% from a year earlier.* In the 4th quarter the drop was 23.1%.

There were 40 single family homes with a minimum of 8,000 SF for sale in Chicago in the 4th quarter compared to 52 a year earlier. The drop inventory can be at least partially attributed to rising sales. In the 3rd quarter the number of Chicago mansions sold was 6 which was double the number a year earlier. In the 4th quarter sales were up 66.7%.
Chicago mansions are scattered around the city, but most are in Lincoln Park, the Gold Coast or River North.
