Prices of houses for sale in Chicago’s Gold Coast typically start at $1,000,000. In 2012 the median sale price was $2,575,000. In 2011 and 2010 it was $3,750,000 and $2,472,500.*
Almost all Gold Coast houses have at least 4,000 SF. Most will fall in the range of 4,000 SF 8,000 SF. Most have lots smaller than the standard Chicago lot size.
Most of the houses are vintage with many built before 1900. There are lots of greystones and brownstones. There are a few new construction opportunities.
Most Gold Coast houses have 4 to 5 bedrooms with 4 1/2 to 5 1/2 bathrooms. Almost all will have at least 3 levels above ground and a basement. Most have a garage, but several of those garages are for only one car.
Gold Coast houses are overwhelmingly located north of Oak Street. There are a few farther south, west of State Street.
