THE BUILDING
221 E Walton built in 1982 has 21 floors with 27 condos. The boutique building has a sundeck on the roof. Utilities included in the monthly assessments include: cable TV and water. Parking in the building is deeded.
The building got off to a rocky start. According to the Chicago Tribune, the building “was built in the early 1980s as a condominium project, but the developer faced a market depressed by high interest rates at that time and rented the units out instead.” All but 2 units were auctioned off as condos in 1992. 221 E Walton is located in the north part of Streeterville in downtown Chicago. It is not “in the heart of the Gold Coast” as the Tribune article stated. It’s between Mies van der Rohe Way and N. DeWitt Place. Note that the correct street address is 221 E Walton Place, not 221 E Walton Street.
Chicago’s Lakefront is 2 blocks away. The Magnificent Mile on Michigan Avenue is 2 blocks west.
A Potash Brothers Market and Treasure Island grocery store are both less than a half mile away. A pharmacy at Water Tower Place is 4 blocks away.
Its Walk Score is currently 97. Its Transit Score is 88. It’s just under a half of a mile from the Red Line at State and Chicago. Numerous bus lines running north and south are just a block and a half away on Michigan Avenue. The #66/Chicago bus running east and west is 4 blocks south.
